Wool: Fabric of HistoryNew!

Saturday, May 2 ~ 5:00 to 6:50 pm ~ Dining Hall
Sunday, May 3 ~ 11:00 to 12:50 am ~ Dining Hall

Headlining the all things sheep and wool weekend are presentations by National Geographic photojournalist Cary Wolinsky, sharing experiences and photographs from his three-year project, Wool: Fabric of History. Wolinsky traveled to every continent to document the people, places and things that trace man's use of wool from prehistoric times to the present. The resulting 40-page feature article included photographs ranging from an amusing half-shorn sheep at an Australian sheep station, to the world's oldest known carpet, found in Siberia and dating from the 5th century B.C.; from a Mongolian family making felt for their yurt in China, to an ancient mummy of a weaver discovered in the sands of South America.

Riding to remote mountain temples with Tibetan herdsman, camping with nomads in goat hair tents, sharing stir fried silk worms or yak butter tea with tribesmen whose culture has changed little in thousands of years: most people only read about these things. Cary Wolinsky does them for a living. Be sure to stop by to hear his fascinating tales of adventures in the world of wool .
