SHEEP SHOW
The sheep show at the 25th anniversary Maryland Sheep &
Wool Festival featured over 1,000 sheep representing 21 states and including
5 flocks from Canada. Morris Culver of Oregon and Dave Clouser of Ohio judged
16 classes -- Border Leicester and Black Border Leicester, Lincoln and Black
Lincoln, Romney and Black Romney, Corriedale, Cotswold, Rambouillet, Targhee,
white wool fine, white wool medium, white wool long, natural colored fine,
natural colored medium and natural colored long.
The Supreme Champion Ram was a Lincoln exhibited
by Bill and Cindy Bankhead of Springfield Farms in Rock Hall, Maryland.
The yearling shown by Keith Chamberlin of K&K Corriedales in
Ashland, Ohio garnered Supreme Champion Ewe honors. Richard
Larson of Old Gjerpen Farm in Nokesville, Virginia was awarded the Shepherd's
Award for the exhibitor who mounts the most educational and attractive
pen display and presents sheep well throughout the Festival. Larson competed
in the natural colored long event, mounted an exhibition in the breed display
area and sponsored a conservation program in which he presented one of his
rare Karakul ewe lambs to a young agriculturist.
The Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival was proud to host the
1998 Eastern Regional Corriedale Show. Keith Chamberlin took Champion ram
as well as Champion ewe. Best fleece went to Kelly Glaser of Limekiln
Corriedales, Limekiln, Pennsylvania.
